Papua Nuova Guinea: The Parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the Rogationist Mission Complex in Sideia-Alotau, Papua New Guinea celebrates its Golden Jubilee Anniversary on September 24, 2017. The theme of the celebration is "Sailing with Christ beyond 50 years."
The activities consisted in the recitation of the Rosary and Procession, the Festive Holy Mass presided by Fr Henry Ramos, RCJ, Parish Priest. In his homily, he emphasized the importance of celebrating a Jubilee year by singing the song "the Great Jubilee."
After the Eucharistic Celebration, different institutes and mission centers presented a cultural program.
Fifty years ago, on September 24, 1967, Bishop Doyle, the first Bishop of Sideia, blessed and opened the Cathedral of Sideia, which later became the current Parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart when the Cathedral was transferred to the main island of Alotau. The Rogationists of the St. Matthew Province took over the Mission of Sideia in 2014 from the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of the Australian Province who began it in 1932.
